Day 2 - Edinburgh |
Today, we will visit Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, and once the scene of bloody and cruel wars between the English and the Scottish in the struggle for the succession of the crown.
We took the bus and went to Princess Street. Princess Street is an important shopping avenue, which is very close to the old town center. From this street we had a nice view to the Edinburgh Castle.
We started wandering through the old town center towards the Edinburgh Castle. Once again we were very lucky with the weather. It was really warm, 25 degrees Celcius, and we were very comfortable in our t-shirt and shorts.
At 11 am we arrived at the castle and visited it for about 2 hours. Every day at 13 am one shot is fired with a cannon so that everyone can tell the time. One would expect off course that the shot(s) would be fired exactly at noon (12am), however, it would be much more expensive to fire 12 shots, then 1 shot, hence the reason why the shot is fired at 13 am instead of 12 am.
In the afternoon we went for a walk to the Holyroad Castle, which we however did not visit. Afterwards we went walking around and found a nice spot where we could drink a cold beer and enjoy the sun.
I can recommend personally a visit to the Edinburgh Castle as it really is a magnificent place with lots to see and lots to do !!!
